1 stream = approx. $0.003Important note: this is assuming that an artist owns 100% of their music rights. If you have band members, a record label, writers, producers, manager, etc. then you get a fraction of a fraction...I'm lucky, I get to keep 100% of my 3/1000 cents per stream. Hallelujah!
What does that actually mean?
It means, to earn the U.S. national average wage, an independent artist (again, assuming 100% ownership of the music), would hypothetically need...The entire combined populations in the cities of:
Pittsburgh (USA)
San Francisco (USA)
Venice (Italy)
AND Dublin (Ireland)to listen to at least one song EVERY.SINGLE.MONTH.... for the average wage. . .
SO WHY DOES MONTINO WRITE MUSIC?
I love storytelling and songwriting.
I'm fortunate that I also have a good day job. Writing is something I've always done. I'd write songs even if it costs me money (which it does some months as a solo artist).
